DrupalCon Paris 2009
Last Friday (13 Nov 2009) evening at 8pm, Skip and Greg were featured on a panel of advisors talking about "Technology in Africa" on the live SABC Africa talkshow "African Views".
The panel expressed strong feelings towards uplifting communities through technology and education. The question was asked "How far behind is Africa ?", the general consensus was that Africa is behind and will continue to be left behind on the global front if we do not invest in Educating our school children on the wonders of technology.
ICT in Africa is however, not as far behind as one might think. With statistics showing that there are more mobile phones in Africa than most 1st world countries. Harnessing the potential of mobile phones will greatly benefit every individual and there are already initiatives moving in this direction. Such as the Vodacom social network "The Grid" and community health care system "GeoMed".
We can push Africa into the forefront of technology advancement in our own African way. We need not solely look at what the rest of the world is doing, but also at what Africa can do. Africa is a bright, creative, continent with a great amount of potential and we should always strive to be Proudly African with everything we do. We expect and utilize different technologies in a uniquely African way, forgetting this will be detrimental to any initiative. Keep ahead, keep African.
